As your tummy starts to grow, you’ll find that your normal clothes are increasingly uncomfortable. When you first start showing, you can probably get away with wearing loose fitted shirts and blouses and your normal slacks with a Bellaband. However, most women find themselves wishing for something more comfortable to wear between 20 and 25 weeks but it’s so hard to find affordable maternity clothing.

Purchasing maternity clothing can be expensive and it can be challenging to find high quality maternity clothing that will last. Just remember that you don’t have to purchase an entire pregnancy wardrobe–only a few, classic essentials- and you don’t have to purchase them all at once. Here’s what I would plan on purchasing during the duration of your pregnancy:

  • 2 Pairs of Jeans 2 Pairs of shorts/ capris 2 dresses 2-3 Maternity Tanks 2 Long sleeve tops 2-3 Short sleeve, fitted tees 1 flowy black knee length skirt

Here are a few of my top picks for buying affordable maternity clothing:

5 Places To Buy Cute & Affordable Maternity Clothing

Purchasing maternity clothing can be expensive and it can be challenging to find high quality maternity clothing that will last. Just remember that you don’t have to purchase an entire pregnancy wardrobe. Here are a few of my top places for buying affordable maternity clothing.

Local Mama-Baby Consignment Shop

If you are lucky enough to have a local mother-baby specialty consignment shop near you, that’s going to be the best pick for affordable, gently used maternity clothing. Opt for a mother baby specialty consignment instead of your run of the mill thrift store to avoid having to search through racks of clothes only to find over stretched and worn out clothes. Most mother- baby consignment stores are a bit more particular about what they will sell so, you’ll have a  better chance of walking out with a wardrobe addition or two.

Target

Target is great for affordable maternity clothes but they aren’t the highest quality. Target has great options for casual daily wear and a variety of waists for jeans. Choose target if you just need something to “get you through” or if you need general day to day options. Target is my top pick for tanks and fitted tees.

Motherhood Maternity

Motherhood Maternity is a very popular maternity clothing brand and rightly so! Motherhood has a wide array of trendy and classic clothing options and their prices are fair. When you first make an account and enter your baby’s guess date, you’ll receive a code for 10% off your first order and always free shipping if you spend $79 or more.

Old Navy and Gap

Old Navy and Gap sell maternity clothing but you’ll only find a small selection in most stores. For the best luck, check out their options online. You’ll have free shipping when you spend $25 or more and no hassle free returns. Old Navy and Gap  are known for their long lasting, high quality denim jeans, and their maternity jeans are no different.

H&M

H&M has a wide array of trendy options. Check out H&M especially if you are on the hunt for a maternity dress. They have everything from a casual mid-calf fitted dresses to lacy cocktail dresses. Their clearance rack also includes an abundance of marked down maternity clothing that can’t be beat!

Finding the best maternity clothes for your ever changing body can be difficult and it may be  a game of trial and error until you find just the right fit. If all else fails, ask a friend with a similar body type if you can borrow a few of their things and don’t be afraid to post an ISO on your local Facebook Yard Sale group for maternity clothes. Most mom’s won’t hesitate to help out another mom in need. Happy shopping growing mamas!
