Recently, it seems like smoothies are the hallmark of every fitness guru’s meal plan. Adorned with artful toppings, smoothie bowls permeate Instagram feeds with vibrant colors and textures. Smoothie bowls are a great way to pack nutrients into a meal. The aesthetics make them a fun meal for kids, and it’s easy to sneak in healthy ingredients – like spinach, which is tasteless once blended into a smoothie. Below are four smoothie bowls you can make quickly for the moment, or make them at night and serve them as breakfast. Each smoothie recipe yields two (2) servings.

Basic Berry

  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1/2 cup blackberries
  • 1 cup strawberries, stem removed
  • 2 cups kefir
  • optional: 1 cup spinach

Suggested toppings: Berries, sliced bananas, granola, coconut flakes, chia seeds

Pumpkin Pie

  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 can pumpkin (real pumpkin, not the pie mix)
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp chia seeds
  • 2 cups unsweetened vanilla almond milk

Suggested toppings: A sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg, granola, pumpkin seeds

Mint Chocolate Chip

  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 2 cups spinach
  • 2 cups unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 8-10 mint leaves (including stalks)
  • 2 tbsp cacao nibs
  • 1 avocado
  • 1/4 tsp peppermint extract

Suggested toppings: A sprig of mint leaves, cacao nibs

Chunky Monkey

  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 2 cups unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 2 tbsp cacao nibs
  • 1/4 cup coconut milk
  • 2 tbsp almond butter

Suggested toppings: Coconut flakes, sliced banana, extra almond butter, cacao nibs, granola

Directions for making all smoothie bowls:

  1. Blend all ingredients well in a blender.
  2. Transfer to an airtight container. Smoothie will keep up to 3 days in the fridge.
