How to Set Realistic Diet Goals for 2017

In a time of endless infomercials and countless day time talk show hosts endorsing their new favorite grape fruit juice diets, it’s no wonder the confusion of where to turn for reliable health information is at an all time high. The sense of being fit and healthy through the means of an effective diet plan has become an increasingly elusive idea. While there is a plethora of information available on human anatomy and daily nutritional and dietary needs, the amount of questionable information endorsed by popular and so called reliable individuals seem to overwhelm and distract the vast majority of the population.

The major problem with exploring so called “effective” diet plans is not within the diet plan itself, but within the commitment level of the individual practicing the diet plan. This being said, every individual who practices a specific health trend probably has a somewhat subjective experience, which in turn is why endorsements for these questionable ideas are so incredibly diverse. With the confusion presented in front of us, the question of whether committing to an endorsed diet plan must be asked.

Before going on a diet, you should ask yourself a few very important questions. “Will this diet allow me to do all the activities I do on a daily basis? Will I have enough energy to be productive? Does the diet allow for a variety of food options that I might actually enjoy?” If you answered no to any of these questions, you probably shouldn’t start the diet.

The problem with various strategies and new fitness trends is not the results, but how the results are accomplished, and how likely they are to be accomplished. The biggest flaw in any plan is poor judgment.  Not having a detailed plan of attack can lead to what’s known as “burning out”. Burning out is the number one reason why results aren’t seen; it is your number one enemy on the road to looking and feeling better. Burning out leads to lack of motivation, and in most cases, can make or break your results.

The most effective diet plan is one that makes you feel like the best version of yourself. Consistency is the key to accomplishing any long-term goal, so make sure that your goal is both realistic, and enjoyable. Reflect on why you want to accomplish your goal. Is it for your family? Is it to feel better about yourself? Bottom line, whatever your purpose is, don’t forget it. Keep your purpose in mind when making important decisions. Your diet is just as good as how determined you are to accomplish your goal. The best thing you can do for yourself is to ask yourself  “will I feel the same amount of motivation in a month as when I started?” Again, if the answer is no, then take some time to come up with a new plan of attack. Some things aren’t meant to be easy, but don’t forget that you can help yourself out even before you start a new goal.
